many people resist talk
of sacred sexuality, energy, spirituality or awakening
because they associate these with confining and oppressive religious rulebooks,
or woo-woo hippie worlds
out of touch with human reality
I know
because I was one of these skeptics-
I was born into a catholic family lineage
and was surrounded by military culture..
I mocked meditation and alternative healing modalities
I ran from anything that would edge me
out beyond what is provable by science
to greater meaning and depth in my life..
I didn’t know what it was like
not to despise my body,
not to feel torn apart and at war with myself,
not to continuously feel unsafe and on guard..
but I also didn’t know what it was like
not to live asking endless questions
that pointed me to the very expansion
I was most afraid of..
I was terrified of opening
not because I didn’t desire it
but because all I knew was with expansion
there always seemed to be expectation
that I live by someone else’s rules or bible or god,
that I subscribe to yet another belief system,
that I’d become vulnerable to the very fear-based religious toxicity
that marred my culture for generations..
but there is such a thing as grounded spirituality-
there is a way
to steep in vulnerable connection and openness
while also standing in solidarity and strength
there is a way
to reach into the heart of surrendered softness
and allow this to infuse your experience
with the paradoxical existence
of both pleasure and pain,
love and rage,
grief and fulfillment
all at once, in body –
and reveal you to your own
wholeness..
there is no true spiritual awakening without
grounded human embodiment
otherwise, it is only a fragile belief system
lacking ground in dynamic reality,
lacking humility and experiential wisdom,
lacking relational skill,
lacking connection to what is truly sacred..
there is a way
to practice spirituality
as the art of fully living your OWN
adventure and evolving inquiry..
that facilitates your remembering
of how you are woven into the
whole fabric of life..
that guides you in uncovering
your own truth,
your own desire,
your own authenticity,
your own openness,
your own love..
and simultaneously evolves you
into deeper shared reality with others..
there is
a way.
