I teach primarily with jade because this is the crystal that the Taoists have used for this practice for thousands of years, with NO known side effects or issues. I recommend Obsidian for more advanced practitioners who resonate with that energy.
The “why” behind this is SUPER important. These two stones have strong structural integrity: they don’t get easily scratched and they’re extremely hard to break. Heat also shows no threat to their integrity.
Other stones, like rose quartz, can be super supportive for heart opening and softness, but do NOT have strong structural integrity. They aren’t built to be inserted into a very warm environment and pressurized through muscular contractions. There have been incidents of practitioners who’ve had rose quartz eggs combust after practice from the heat and pressure.
It’s also very easy to scratch fragile stones like rose quartz and not realize it, which can be a hygiene issue.
Every brand I’ve found that makes jade or obsidian eggs also sell rose quartz eggs and many other stones. The vast majority of them have the best intentions, and the incidence of eggs breaking is either minimal or nonexistent. I just personally can’t recommend using stones that we know to be less safe and that MAY be a health liability when there are two stones with thousands of years of use that guarantee their safety.
If you have a rose quartz egg, perfect. Bless it, do ceremonies with it, or keep it on your altar. You can get all the benefits of stones like rose quartz without ever bringing it into the living temple of your body. The most I feel you should do is “wear the egg” for light walking or resting.
This is also YOUR a choice. I’m not here to instill fear – but I DO want you to have the education you need to make it consciously for yourself.
